shorts story

{Top: NY&Co., Shorts: Express via Plato's Closet, Belt: F21, Shoes: Payless}

I have been pretty busy this month. I moved, started a new job, and still have stuff to take care of with our old apartment. After this weekend, hopefully everything that has been occupying my free time will be all wrapped up and I can go back to my normal routine.

As of right now my weekend is packed with the last bit of "old apartment" duties, gotta clean and grab that last little bit of stuff, turn in the keys and say good-bye. I really want to visit my Grandmother sometime Saturday and even though I technically have plenty of time to do it... I really want to unpack the rest of our boxes, do laundry like crazy, and organize our new place.

Anyway... I dont know how I feel about this outfit, its another one of those "concept" outfits, these are the shorts that I recently bought at Plato's Closet for $8.00 and the tags from Express were still attached stating that the MSRP was $49.50... unreal!

awkward & awesome thursday, vol. 3

{Top: NY&Co., Skirt: Target via Plato's Closet, Shoes: Payless}

Awkward
  • My sweetie met me at the grocery store to help me get everything and load the items in our car since I can’t lift much due to my back injury and also because I was frustrated from the time spent at WalMart {do they hide everything on purpose, or are they just that disorganized?}, so I am already there in our grocery store pushing my cart along when out of the corner of my eye I see a cutie! I never ever notice guys because I am madly in love with my boy, but here I am checking this one out and it turns out to be my sweetie! A combination of distance and my poor vision had me thinking that I was looking at another handsomely bearded fellow, while the whole time it was the sweetheart I kiss goodbye each morning before leaving for work… I guess that is actually pretty awesome, but I told him about it, and that was pretty awkward.
  • My hair looking poufy in the outfit photo above.
  • Being really cranky because... well, I am a girl. Ugh.

Awesome
  • Absolutely loving my new job! I know that it’s only been three days, but it’s just a completely different atmosphere.  Everyone smiles.
  • Enjoying a project with a really geeky Excel spreadsheet!
  • Buying a big giant crockpot so that I can make lots and lots of yummy stuff.
  • The skirt (pictured above) originally form Target, fits like a dream and is a funky pattern... I know that it is supposed to be animal, but it kind or reminds me of a coral reef. You may remember the shirt from this outfit.
  • Seeing about eight little stray kittens this morning, they were hanging out by the dumpster in the parking lot of my office.

just a concept

{Top: F21, Skirt: F21, Belt: F21, Shoes: Payless}

Yesterday was my first day at the new job and I must say, it was pretty fantastic.  Everyone there is so nice and friendly, I feel like I fit in pretty well. It’s so refreshing to be in a working environment where everyone is happy to be at work and has a smile on their face. Not to mention the added perk that I work very close to my home and my hours are so much better, I will actually have some time for myself to enjoy {this means more blogging, haha} rather than sitting in traffic for an hour.

So, now on to the outfit… The above pictured are two items that I really like a lot, but hardly wear. The top usually gets paired with jeans and that skirt doesn’t get much wear because it’s kind of short… too short to wear to work, but maybe it’s okay for going shopping or meeting up with friends for the movies or weekend lunches. Needless to say, I haven’t worn this one out in the real world yet… it’s still just a concept right now. I am in love with the shoes, I just got them from Payless and they are so comfy. I really like how they keep this outfit looking daytime.

DIY: Faux Flower Pen Set

Yes. Once and a while I get an itch to be crafty. Inspired by the Shine Project's weekly challenge, to create something, I decided that I would try out this little craft project that I have been wanting to do for awhile.

Its rather simple... here is a list of what you need:
  • Pens, any kind... I used 2 different types, some old ones that I already had and I also bought a 4 pack of clicky pens on sale at Staples for $4.00
  • Wire trimmers... bought these at Joann's Fabric for $5.00
  • Faux Flowers, good 'ole Dollar Tree... I purchased 2 sets for $1.00 each
  • Stem Tape, Joann's Fabric has this for $1.99
  • Something to put it all in once its done. I am using a coffee mug that was a gift, so FREE.
Now... on to the How To:
  • Snip the faux flower from the bunch, leaving enough stem that you can easily hold it to the pen, I gave about 1.5 to 2 inches.
  • Hold the flower in place with one hand, with the other hand, wrap the stem tape around the pen securing the flower stem.
  • Keep wrapping the stem tape
  • Once the flower is secure, tear off the tape and toss that pretty thing in the container of your choice.
Some notes...
  • The particular stem tape I bought was a little sticky, probably because I got the cheapest one offered, and since I didn't want to feel the stickiness while writing, I kept the flower stems shorter and didn't wrap the tape all the way to the end of the pen.
Okay, really easy and very cute. If you make a set, show me the link or send me the picture :)

last day of my fake-cation

{Oxford: F21, Undershirt: Charlotte Russe, Jeans: Express via Plato's Closet, Shoes: Payless}

What a silly first picture, it was my "test shot" but I really like it and it's actually a pretty good photo of my *new* highlights... my hair is gradually getting more and more blonde.

I have noticed that cuffed jeans are making something of a comeback, I don't know if they ever really went anywhere, but I think its cute so I wanted to try it out... these jeans are perfect for cuffing... I am pretty short, and these jeans are "regular" length {which means plenty of extra length for me to cuff} skinny boot cut originally from Express. I guess a skinny boot cut means they are a curvy girl's skinny jean because they aren't super skin tight {like a jegging} and allow room for hips and thighs while still looking "skinny."

I think I am going to call this look "southern nautical" because I feel like the colors and shoes are super preppy/nautical, but then for some reason I tied the shirt and made it look a little country, I should have belted it. I don't know... take the good with the bad, right.

Other news... I learned how to add disqus to my blog so now I can write back to everyone who has been so kind by leaving me comments {I love them, and I try to comment frequently on other blogs so if you do leave a comment... leave your blog address too!}... I am very grateful for each and every one of you! Thank you to everyone, I really do appreciate it.

Also... this is the last day of my "fake-cation" I gave myself a little 4-day weekend before my new job, which starts tomorrow! Can't wait! I feel like it's the first day of school or something :)

moving on

{Dress: Express, Belt: Nordstrom, Shoes: Gianni Bini}

Lucky me... I will get to enjoy a long weekend since my new job starts next week.  I am so excited to start there and get working on their projects.  I feel like I will finally be challenged at work and have a huge opportunity to show them what I am made of... watch out world! haha, but seriously... watch out!

My weekend plans are to finish getting the last few items from my old apartment and getting everything ready to turn it over since I dont have much time left to finish up there.

I also want to find a pair of flats... I have been wearing my sandals and wedges as suggested by Gertrude of Bows and Pearls to ease my back pain and I haven't had many episodes... Thanks for the advice G! Now I am on a mission to find at least 1 nice pair of cute flats that I can wear to work... and maybe a wedge too if there is a nice sale.

Hair Updos

This year, updo hairstyles are blow-dried and simple. To create a similarly elegant look, ask you hairdresser to create an Audrey Hepburn hair updos that is loose and chic. This sort of style would go fantastically well with a 50s style wedding dress.The most evident hair updo trend this season is a messy, carefree style. While there is certainly less room for sloppiness at a wedding, the spirit behind this trend need not be abandoned when designing a wedding hair style. A sloppy or free-flowing hair style might be perfect for a beach wedding. Many brides are opting for looser, more whimsical styles over classic, tight or sleek updos. Many of the most popular updos at the moment feature loose hairs around the face, modified french twists and carefully orchestrated fly aways. Also, hair updos always look stunning in prom nights.

The updo style can take many forms and can make a woman look glamorous, elegant, chic and sexy. Many short hairstyles for women are contemporary and time tested styles, and you can easily adopt one of them when you spend some time thinking about what might suit you the best. It does not matter whether your hair is straight or curly as there are plenty of short hairstyles for women to choose from. Either visit a hairstylist, or do it yourself. You will amaze yourself with the possibilities.

awkward & awesome thursday - v.2

{Top: Express, Skirt: the Limited, Shoes: Gianni Bini}

Happy St. Pattie's Day to everyone, I am not wearing green in the above photo, {it was actually taken on Sunday!} I am a little behind on my posts.

I fell in love with this skirt when I was at the Limited a few weeks ago, the girls were actually setting up the display when I saw it on the merchandising rack. As much as I wanted it, I thought that it wouldn't be a wise purchase since its such a bold color. Then I read this post by one of my favorite bloggers, J's Everyday Fashion and was motivated to go back and try to find the skirt again.

Luckily it was on sale this time, so I not only was I able to find it in "my size" but I saved a little bit by waiting. Now... as you can see I put handy-dandy quotation marks around the words my size because I typically wear a size zero, but this skirt looks a little big on me and the other day, while in the Gap, I tried on jeans and had to go to a 00... NOW WAY! What is up with sizes being so much bigger this season. I want TRUE to size fit!

Mkay... enough complaining... on to the good stuff, Awkward and Awesome Thursday!!

Awkward
  • Last Friday night I had the worst stomach ache that literally immobilized me... turns out it was most likely a "air bubble" - yes I just admitted that.
  • I woke up on Sunday with what felt like a bruise on my cheek, only to get out of bed to brush my teeth and see the biggest zit ever! Thank you mud mask! That sucker got zapped.
  • Vehicle maintenance - yuck, that money could have bought shoes!

Awesome
  • Friday brought me some AMAZINGLY AWESOME news... hello new job!
  • I had a fabulous weekend with J, him having a Saturday off was such a great surprise, I love that we got to have some fun time together and enjoy a happy little date night.
  • Sunday night dinner featuring home-made "shake n' bake" and roasted potatoes, I am starting to get the hang of this cooking thing. Now I officially have 2 go-to amazing meals.
  • Department store credit cards... nearly paid off! Wooooot wooot!
  • Finding FabSugar and setting up a profile there, friend me there... I mean, if you want.
  • Blonder... blonder... blonder!
  • Finding out at about an interesting new site for shoppers featuring product reviews, check out my profile: http://ohgle.it/user/TeresaLifeandStyle you can set up an account here.

fashionably functional

{Top: Express, Belt: Nordstrom, Jeans: Express, Shoes: Gianni Bini}

Wow... it's already Wednesday. I can't believe how fast this week is flying by.  Tonight is a big night... I am getting my hair trimmed and a few little splashes of blonde added in {pictures to come later!}Also, I mentioned BIG NEWS earlier this week. Well now that all the loose ends are tied I can talk about it. I got a new J-O-B! Yay me :)

Don't let me fool you...the above pictured is actually what I wore on Saturday to the Horse Races, I just never got around to posting it since all this new career excitement has been floating around me.

In other news... I stopped by Plato's Closet last night on the way home from work and found a pair of Express jeans, a tulip skirt, and a pair of shorts from Express that still have the tags on them {they are very similar to these currently in stores}... all for $24. Oh yea!

Also. I fear that I may have to give up my love affair with high-heels. I have a back injury and I have noticed lately that my back is hurting more and more... I think that its all in the shoes, so now I am on the hunt for cute, affordable, and comfortable flats... any suggestions?

Wedding Hairstyles

Try to select a wedding hairstyle that is neither over nor too casual for the occasion. Remember that a "bride should look like a bride." Therefore, choose hairstyle according to your face shape and bridal dress, it may be a bun with flowers, loose curls or formally blow dry. Choosing the right wedding hairstyle is a big part of getting your style right on your big day. Once you've got your style sorted, you are well on your way to looking amazing on your wedding day!

Add some stunning hair accessories or flowers and you are sure to look the part of the well-dressed bride. If wearing your hair up has never been your style, wear your long hair down with a few, simple free curls. But make sure you consider the outfit you are going to wear on your big day. If you are wearing a high necked dress, a classic up do gives a very dazzling look. If you are wearing a lower cut or strapless dress, long hair may soften the look a bit.

wonderful weekend

{Top: NY&Co., Belt: Charlotte Russe, Jeans: Express, Shoes: Gianni Bini}

This is my casual Friday outfit... mustard yellow top, leopard print skinny belt and jeans. I know, I know, kind of out-of-order on the photo posts seeing as I posted my weekend outfit Friday, which by the way... didn't happen - I ended up wearing something entirely different.

Friday night we met up with some friends for a little bit, I love hanging out with this group of people, the guys are great and the girls are so sweet. It's always a good time when we see them.

Saturday J had the day off {if you haven't noticed... this almost NEVER happens on a Saturday, and sadly probably wont again for a long time now that it's Spring} so we took full advantage and slept in, made pancakes and went to the horse races.  We ran into some of J's co-workers and ran around placing bets on the horses... it was a lot of fun and I was so happy to get to spend some weekend time with my honey.  We work different schedules right now so we don't get many Saturdays together.  After all the fun, we hit up Smokey Bones and had a dinner date then came home and watched National Treasure on TV.

It was a pretty amazing weekend.

On a side-note, I am soooo excited to watch Celebrity Apprentice tonight, Niki Taylor, Niki Taylor, Niki Taylor!!! Okay, sorry about that.

what a week its been

{Dress: American Eagle(thrifted), Necklace: Fossil, Shoes: Gianni Bini}

Okay, its been one crazy week but its all over now... hello weekend, my very best friend! I wish that there were more days in the weekend, ya' know like 5 or so...

I bought this dress at my recent trip to Plato's Closet. I haven't officially worn it out yet, but plan on wearing it this weekend on my lady date with my friend Heather.  This is unless its freezing cold tomorrow... today was chilly and I was NOT prepared.

I have some really exciting news, but I cant really say until Monday. Boooooo I know :( I am horrible.

awkward & awesome thursday

Awkward:
  • Not feeling great and having that nagging cough that just wont go away.
  • My shoe breaking yesterday during a status meeting... and then me realizing it and yelling "Frick!"
  • Driving in the rain on the way to work this morning... it's the worst, it makes the trip twice as long and Tampa drivers scare the crap out of me!

Awesome:
  • Not feeling good and staying home in bed until 10am on a Friday {last week, of course}.
  • Finding 2 thrift shops with great items and even better prices!
  • Having my sweetheart tell me that my pepper-steak dinner is the best meal that he has EVER had.
  • Watching Heather Morris sing/dance in Glee: Blame it on the Alcohol
  • Getting my I <3 Jonathan shirt in the mail last night.
  • Getting mail at all... last night was the first mail we have gotten since moving...
  • Knowing that today is Thursday and that the weekend is right around the corner.

i heart j

{Shirt: i love t-shirts, Jeans: Express, Sandals: Target}

Looky at what came in the mail today... I suppose that wearing this t-shirt makes it official {ya'll know its been official!} I was a little worried about throwing down $20 something dollars for a t-shirt since I really never find shirts like this that actually fit and I had no clue what the quality of the the text would be. To my happy surprise the shirt fits great, I will definitely have to be careful with the shirt when it comes time to wash since the letters are not screen printed on.

All in all, I really love the shirt, its cute and his reaction was cute... plus, its true. I do heart Jonathan.

Wedding Hair

It is always a good idea to discuss and give your hairstylist some ideas about what your wedding hair styles, especially what you like, although hairstylists can be your wedding hair consultant and they will offer suggestions for your wedding hair style. Your first step is to choose wedding hairstyles that appeals to you. Browse for wedding hair pictures on popular bridal magazines or open your internet browser and googling "wedding hair". Co-coordinating the wedding hair styles or how you wear your hair and make up at formal events with those of the wedding party or other guests does not mean having to choose exactly the same styles but the look should compliment each member's personality, hair texture as well as facial structure.

The theme of your wedding party also impact what wedding hair style you will want to select from. A bridal can also choose the more unconventional wedding hair style. The way in which you select to wear your hair in your large day will largely depend around the place of your wedding. For example, in the event you opt for a countryside wedding then you might wish to channel a bohemian look and give it accessories with delicate flowers, or in the event you choose a grand church you may want to follow a much more formal style.

shop my closet

Check out the Shop My Closet page. Not a huge selection, just a few items here and there.

the little black dress

{Dress: Victoria Secret (thrifted), Belt: Charlotte Russe, Shoes: Kenneth Cole (thrifted)}

So I haven't really worn this dress yet {aside from the photos}... I was just so excited to show everyone my amazing thrift find! It's a simple little cotton dress, originally from Victoria Secret/Moda International and is exactly the little black dress that I have been looking for since who knows when...

The shoes are also thrifted, from another shop, but also a treasure that I was in need of... I have been on the hunt for some Summery black pumps for ages and now I finally have added a pair to my closet collection. I think that this outfit is by far my gold medal thrift look.
