daily outfit: leopard chiffon

I recently found this treasure on eBay and while I tried to practice self-restraint I still added it to my watch-list. I was good... I let a few days pass and then I was bad... I clicked the "buy it now" button, but I have no regrets.

In my defense this tunic has it all... its chiffon, its leopard print... its the perfect party outfit. Even  though I fell victim to my shopping addiction yet again, I think that this could be the perfect outfit for a little "Welcome Home J" party or a date night out dancing at a little indie bar/club.

Do you have items that you tried to resist, but that ultimately won you over? Little frocks that sent you back to stores or on the hunt for online coupons? I  wanna know that I am not alone in the palpitating and salivating that is induced by soft little pretty and frilly things.

I am loving that full skirts are "in" again... check out The Limited, they have a whole spread on full skirts. I found my inspiration photo from asos.com, its the eucalyptus floral skirt and if you love it, you can buy it HERE ... my version came from the musty old Goodwill, but I love it just the same.

I started Financial Peace at church last Thursday. To be honest, digging deep into my budget and bills is stressing me out. But, it has to be done if I am ever going to buy a house or take a vacation, ya know... adult stuff. I spend money on junk and I eat lunches out way too much while working my 9-5er. I made some goals, gonna do some budget cuts on items/services that J and I dont need, gonna maybe get a little part-time job to supplement our saving account and vacation fund. Little steps, but it will all add up and when it does I will send everyone a post card from that yet-to-be-determined tropical island J and I vacation to ;)

Yes, I too own this dress as previously seen on Audrey and Lilly. I wore mine to church today and I couldn't agree more with these lovely ladies that this dress is a staple to my wardrobe, it's season-less and can easily merge from Spring to Summer to Fall.

I love that we all share it and that there will be so many visual inspirations from our personalities for this little frock.

I love when it cools down in Florida and I can start wearing tights and skirts. These tights are a recent "splurge" from We Love Colors, I got a few pairs and cant wait to start wearing them. Now I just need the weather to cooperate.

I'm not sure what you would call the pattern of this dress, its sort of "distressed giraffe" to me. I thrifted this beauty last weekend and wore it for the first time Wednesday... I personally don't care too much for the built in belt. I feel like I would have enjoyed adding my own belt to this dress a lot more, however I still really love it.

As you can see, this dress is reminiscent of - oh I don't know... the 90's. It reminds me of something Brenda or Donna would have worn on the original 90210. Since all things old are new again I figured that this little treasure would be a good addition to my wardrobe.  I bought it months ago at Goodwill (my favorite place) but just got around to snapping photos of it.  It truly is the perfect little dress for running around.

My sweetie surprised me today. He told me he had something sent to our place and that I needed to pick it up and asked if I could send it along with some other stuff to his temporary home in LI, New York.  Well when I got the package, it wasn't golf toys like I thought it would be. He ordered me a NookColor.

I have wanted one for a long time and it was such a sweet unexpected thing for him to do. I am truly a lucky girl.  Thanks baby love :)

I noticed that the Nook has a friends feature, I don't know how to use it yet, but if you also Nook and want to lend e-Books or maybe do a blogger book club let me know!

daily outfit: sunday stripes

So the weekend is over, so sad... it always goes by way to fast.  I did a whole lot of nothing on Friday night, Saturday was reserved for cleaning and napping, and then there was Sunday. My friend Alisha invited me to her church and then brunch afterward.

Brunch was AMAZING! This little place in my own backyard that I have never been to was super delicious. I cant wait for J to come home so that we can have a date night there. I love when you find little local treasures like that.

This is my Sunday outfit, its a dress that you may remember from here. I added some olive green leggings and a belt to change it up. I wanted to find that medium between dressy and casual since I didn't know what the dress code would be like at church.  It was an even mix of dressed up attendees and casual jeans and tees... my kind of place.

I notice that I wear my yellow shoes a lot, that's okay they make me "tall", are a bold hue, and don't hurt my back, which is probably why they are my favorite. I also notice that a lot of what I wear comes from Target. That's not a bad thing.

daily outfit: slouchy sweater and shorts, plus new hair

Finally and outfit post... and the new 'do.  The hair is a little The Glamourai meets Sunday Crossbow. I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out and I really think that this was just the pick me up that I needed to help add a smile to my face.

My friend Alisha gave me the cut, there are razored elements throughout... I have pretty thin hairs so I used Rusk BloFoam, an aerosol mousse, to add a little bulk to my tresses followed by some Rusk Being Rubber Gum to separate and add a few messy pieces. 

This is the first time I didn't get to see J right after a hair makeover :( I am really missing him tonight.

Thank you so much to all of you who have sent love and prayers to my Grandmother.  She is stable, meeting a cardiologist tomorrow to discuss options to improve her heart condition.  She also has some fluid in her lungs, but the fluids are becoming less and less thanks to medications.

inspired by: my grandma

This is a photo of my grandmother... It makes me so happy that I look so much like her.  I haven't been up for taking outfit photos, remixing, and haven't really been "inspired by" any celeb lately because I am a little (lot) worried about her health.  My Grandma moved to Tennessee (many of you know I live in Florida) this past weekend to live with my Aunt, there she can provide better care than I can right now. 

I am sad that I am not the one taking care of her anymore, that I don't get to see her every day and that she feels so far away... I just wanted to ask the wonderful people that read my blog to please pray to whomever you believe in, ask that my Grandma starts feeling better soon and is healthy enough to go thrifting with me ;)

She is an amazing woman, who raised me and she is the reason I am the person I am today.

monsoon hairdos

Back in January 2006, I had this fun little chopped up mess on my head that was roll out of bed fun and lately I have been thinking a lot about it... missing it... and wanting to revisit that hair cut. Tell me what you think, should I chop?

Sorry for being lazy and not taking photos of yesterday's outfit... I will steam it and photog it over the weekend, I promise. Here in Tampa its a monsoon... raining and raining like cats and dogs. EBEW: pattern mixing

Everybody, Everywear's August challenge is a pretty awesome one... pattern mixing, Here is my take:

I tried mixing prints once for a remix, but it wasn't something that I could really see myself wearing... this on the other hand is something I think I could wear out and feel confident in. I kept the pallet neutral and the main color black so that it "goes" a little better than lots of bold colors.  Maybe I would feel more comfortable mixing hues after a little more practice.
